How Christmas Angels Works

Through Christmas Angels we anonymously pair up families in need with other families, groups or organizations that are willing to sponsor a family for Christmas. The majority of families that we sponsor are referred to us through programs such as the Medfield Community Outreach, trusted referrals and South Middlesex Opportunity Council .

After being referred, the family would fill out a wish list for about 3 items each family member would like for Christmas. The list is then posted anonymously on our website. A sponsoring family or organization can then choose the family to sponsor, purchase the gifts and Christmas Angels than passes them on to the family in need.

This is all done anonymously with neither the family in need or the sponsor knowing the identity of the other. Christmas Angels strives to pass on the best gift you can give yourself, “Counting your blessings and helping those less fortunate”. Our goal is that someday the families in need this year will be able to pay it forward to others less fortunate and the generosity will become never ending!

The following is a note from our liason at Medfield Youth Outreach:

To the Christmas Angels,

Thank you in advance for your commitment to Medfield families.  The time you take to choose and shop for a child or teen’s request makes a profound impact on the lives of the families served through the Christmas Angels.  Imagine if you will: a family that hits a sudden medical crisis; runs out of all their savings from a job loss; or has battled poverty for years, and now with the down turn in the economy, feels like they are losing that battle.  These are the families we serve.  We see the relief in their faces when they pick up the gifts you have spent so much time considering.  Thank you for your generosity.  Thank you for the heart behind all that you will do to lift up a neighbor who could use extra cheer this holiday season.

As you shop this year, please remember that these scenarios are not that far from home.  Remember that the joy you give extends far beyond a toy, some clothing, or a gift card.  Your giving is a reminder that good things can and do happen even in the middle of a really hard time.

All the best wishes for a wonderful holiday season to you and yours,

Dawn Alcott, LICSW
